Forward Head Posture

"Forward head posture" is a carriage in which the head sits ahead of the shoulders while standing or sitting, typically to see better or to compensate for a posture problem. Essentially, it involves stretching the neck and pushing the head forward.

Numerous factors contribute to a forward head posture. Here are some prevalent reasons:

  • Poor habits that result in wrong posture
  • Neck pain or stiffness
  • Prolonged concentration or nervousness period

Deterioration of a forward head posture can result in several severe consequences:

  • Stiffness: The neck may stiffen, restricting the typical range of head movement.
  • Prolonged neck posture may result in persistent pain in the neck muscles and ligaments.
  • Cervical spondylosis: Prolonged neck manipulation can hasten the progression of cervical spondylosis, resulting in its exacerbation and increased compression of the nerve roots.
